Adam is a well-rounded musician with 15 years drumming and general music performance experience across multiple musical genres. His musical style is an expressive mix of improvisational funk, jazz, rock, and world beat drumming, built upon an early foundation of punk and classic rock experience.
Adam learned music theory early on, developing a good ear for melody and rhythm through several years of piano performance. Later he began to focus on drums and has studied classic rock, blues, and complex funk, improv, and jazz techniques, mostly through self-teaching but also under direction of Gainesville’s Tom Hurst. Adam enjoys playing in odd time signatures, jungle grooves, jazz triplets, and driving rock backbeats. Adam is most influenced by Phish drummer Jon Fishman, and heavily influenced by Zeppelin’s John Bonham, DMB’s Carter Beauford, and Rush’s Neil Pert.
Adam has written, performed, and recorded music with several bands, including early rock bands Menger Circle and Take Out, reggae project Sol, and more recently Gainesville-based Four Months of Funk. He has also sat in with local bands including Sea Journey. Adam has additional experience in acoustic guitar/vocal performance, playing solo acts in Gainesville and Austin, Texas, and singing lead and backup vocals on several recorded tracks.
