Well, I was listening to some Galactic and this song came on so it sounded fun to tab out. Here it is, with correct timing and all. Of course, if there are errors please let me know. It is a I-IV-V song and leaves pretty much all scale choices up to the soloist. Good New Orleans type funk.

Phish – Funky Bitch Tab
Well, I finally had a little time and I have been working on some blues stuff recently so this seemed like a fun song to look at. It is a basic 12-bar blues in C. I have tabbed out the intro and initial ‘solo’ of the song up to the first lyrics. The rest is pretty self explanatory except for Trey’s final solo. This was a great little piece to give me some insight into Trey’s style for blues and hopefully you will get something out of it.
PDF Tab
Like many other blues artists, it seems Trey relies heavily on the Mixolydian mode and notice how he hits chord tones really well to outline the chord changes. He also has a very swing feel to this.
I have included two clips. To save these just right click on the link and Save As…:
- This clip is the intro of the song up to the first lyrics from the Alpine Valley show. It is at full speed.
- This clip is the same clip but slowed down to 60bpm. Ableton is GREAT for doing this kind of thing. It is amazingly simple to do.
And here is a link to the PDF tab. As usual, I haven’t included timing but if you listen to the song you will pick it up.

Of course, there may be errors in this file and any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Especially if this has helped you or was fun in any way.
Phish 06/10/09 Knoxville, TN Recap
If absence makes the heart grow fonder, I was about ready to send an entire rose garden to the four members of Phish out of affection and love for the music they’ve made, the feelings they’ve given me throughout the years and the unforgettable memories of shows past. But, alas, it had been nearly five years since I had seen them live, and for anyone who was at Coventry or listened to much of the pre-breakup 2004 tour, you know that wasn’t really Phish.
I didn’t win the Hampton Reunion lottery and I didn’t have half a million dollars to pay scalpers for three nights worth of music plus transportation and lodging. But like a true phan, I sat by my computer from 8pm to midnight on March 6th, 7th and 8th, furiously pressing the refresh button on phish.com for set list updates. I was even fortunate enough to have some phriends call me from the shows and let me listen in via cell phone. Meanwhile, I longed for the day when I would once again be amongst the phrenzied Phisheads as Big Red, Leo, Cactus and the Bearded Lady took the stage and took me away to a place I had not been since 2004.
That day came on June 10th. Thanks to a great phriend (more like a brother), I was given a ticket to see the Phearsome Phoursome in Knoxville, TN… home to the Gators‘ rival Tennessee Douchebags, er, Volunteers. “Fine, that’s fine,” I said. It was well worth it to step onto enemy territory for the chance to see the greatest band in the world play live again.
Wanee Music Festival 2009 Recap, Review and Torrents
Wanee Festival 2009 finally came and then went too fast as always. It was a great weekend that was completely filled with the joy of music and some great bands really put on memorable shows. For the most part the event went on without mother nature infringing too much like in 2007. The rain was pretty light on Saturday and nonexistent on Friday. In case you missed it, or are just trying to recapture the moments here is a quick recap of what unfolded at the fifth annual event…and also we will provide you with links to find the torrents of your favorite shows for free!

The Allman Brothers are finally back…just not as jammy as before. Nonetheless, we won’t complain about two nights worth of southern blues, rock and jam music. The Liz Reed was just what the doctor ordered. So was the glorious The Sky Is Crying cover they pulled out. As a whole, the band seemed a little less willing to extend out from their comfort zone then in years past. The crowd at this years Wanee was definitely larger and maybe more interest was a bad thing. The first night of the Allman Brothers was mellow and relaxed, almost as if Derek was just waiting for the show to be over and he could get to his set. The second night was a lot more energy and in my opinion was a MUCH better show. The band seemed to at least be enjoying themselves and not just waiting for it to be over.
Derek Trucks at Wanee 2006
In honor of the upcoming 5th annual Wanee Festival, it’s only fitting that this month’s DOTM be one of the greatest sets in the festival’s brief but exhilarating history. To close out the 2nd year of Wanee, the Derek Trucks Band promptly took the stage mere minutes after the Allman Brothers had just finished their epic set and proceeded to rock everyone’s socks off with what would eventually become one of the most infamous sets in Wanee history. With tons of guest appearances, ming-shattering jams and sing-along covers, the crowd was uproarious from start to finish, closing out the festival in a way only Derek Trucks and his trusty slide guitar could. Here’s what transpired…
Buddy Guy Wants To Wanee
After joining the Allman Brothers Band during their legendary 15-night residency at the Beacon Theatre, blues guitar master and global icon Buddy Guy has been added to the already-stacked Wanee Festival lineup. Along with his own set (hopefully on the Mushroom stage!), you can bet your bottom dollar that Guy will make an appearance (or two) with the Brothers for their headlining sets.
The 5th annual Wanee Festival will take place June 5-6 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Park in Live Oak, FL.
Lettuce – Speak E.Z. Guitar Tab/Sheet Music
Well, I was messing around today and was listening to some Lettuce when this song came on. I had a few minutes so I tabbed it out. Hopefully, at least one human being will find this useful. The main theme is all there (some timing may be a bit off) and the improv sections are in F minor. The two parts to the theme are pretty close but are slightly different. That difference makes the whole groove. Please let me know of errors or additions that should be made. It really is amazing what some people can do with three notes, cool timing and pentatonic. This comes straight out of E minor pentatonic.

Phish at Red Rocks ’96
Ryan recently posted a link to bt.etree.org, which features endless amounts of incredible recordings of all your favorite jam bands. This is the first in what will be a monthly feature of our favorite downloads from the site.
Up first…Phish‘s famed three-night run at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO in the fine year of 1996. These shows were made famous by getting Phish banned from Red Rocks because of the Phan “riots” that ensued! Of course, what eyewitnesses say actually happened is some local community members were angered at the influx of people and the cops overreacted. Watch the video below for some coverage of the event. It seems that Phish has terrible luck at this venue considering this year the Ticketmaster mishap had lots of Phans thinking they had secretly snuck tickets a week before the tickets actually went on sale.
Anyways, this is a great run of shows and you should check it out.
Lesson: Major Triads and Arpeggios on Guitar I
Well, I was looking around the internet for some good tutorials on major triads similar to what I learned from Jeff Ladenheim. It turns out that there are a TON of ways to teach this and maybe some are easier then others or some work better with certain people. I think the way he taught it was great and it not only helped me learn a lot more about the theory of music but also helped me learn the triads themselves and gave me a much better command of the neck. Once you learn these you realize that you don’t have to move much to get to any chord you want and playing chord tones in solos becomes a lot easier! If you have questions please ask!! Read More
Interview with Cody Dickinson from North Mississippi Allstars and Hill Country Revue
At the core of this blog is a feverish love for blues and jam music, so any time we get to sit down with a member of one of the better live acts around, we’re understandably a little excited. Here’s what transpired when Gainesville Records sat down with Cody Dickinson from the North Mississippi Allstars and Hill Country Revue. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Cody’s work, he’s a multi-faceted musician who plays drums, guitar and washboard, among other instruments. Cody’s roots are steeped in the traditional blues of North Mississippi’s hill country… hence the names for his two groups. You can check out Cody with HCR at this year’s Wanee Festival in Live Oak, FL.
Ami: Your music is so entrenched in the name of your two major bands. Can you tell us a little bit about growing up in the Hill Country of North Mississippi at places like Junior’s Juke Joint and how that helped shape and influence your current sound? Read More
